Newt Scamander, un vrajitor britanic care ajunge in New York avand la el o servieta magica in care sunt tinute captive tot felul de creaturi ciudate si minunate pe care le-a adunat de-a lungul calatoriilor sale. La putin timp dupa sosirea in Manhattan, Newt schimba accidental servieta cu cea a unui om simplu, fara puterni magice, pe nume Jacob Kowalski. In momentul in care Jacob deschide servieta, cateva creaturi magice din interior reusesc sa scape si sa fuga in „jungla urbana”. Momentul acestei evadari este unul cat se poate de prost pentru ca deja exista tensiuni intre muritori si vrajitori, iar ele sunt atat de intense incat ar putea in orice clipa sa izbucneaza intr-un razboi.
